ZOOM: ORIENTATION IN COUNSELLING (3-DAYS)

Do you find yourself in a situation whereby people are continuously coming to you for guidance, advice, ventilation of frustrations or problems and enjoy talking to you?
Do you then feel you wish you know a little bit more on how to “counsel”/guide them?
Are you in practice and at times find yourself wanting to refresh on counselling skills or even become more familiar with basic counselling techniques?

What is Counselling?
Counselling in lay terms is a professional modality to facilitate a person’s lifestyle whilst understanding their circumstances through empathy, and to intervene accordingly to address the occurring problem.
Target Audience:
These three days will benefit people as initially stated above – wanting to know more about helping others in a calm relaxed atmosphere or to those wanting to refresh on counselling skills.
Course Content:
Focus within the theoretical scenario will cover the following:

i)   Defining and understanding counselling.
ii)  Understand the origin of counselling.
iii) Dealing with ethical aspects and understanding the human being within specific levels of needs – The Maslow strategy is dealt with in understanding the basic socio-economic needs a person experiences.
iv)  Adding to the above-mentioned human development and functioning will thus also be looked at relating to the person’s nature.
v)  Different ecological systems will be addressed.
vi) Focus will also be on different behavioural patterns and ways in which a person may function.
vii) Overview of prominent issues, developmental issues, interpersonal issues, family issues, and control issues will be outlined.
On a practical level/scenario some of these aspects mentioned above will be illustrated how to apply it in practice.
Cost: R1 200.00 per participant (includes course notes and attendance certificate).
Facilitator Profile:
Prof Retha is a Registered Social Worker in Private Practice with a Ph.D in Interdisciplinary studies and has been working with adults and children in both individual and group settings for the past 51 years. She is also a registered Kobus Neethling Wholebrain Practitioner that deals with the different brain preferences, skills, relationships, communication skills, etc.
Furthermore she holds a Doctorate in Mental Health - to ensure that the emotions and brain health is addressed effectively – and has a second Ph.D in Colour Intervention to broaden the support in a lifestyle wellness programme.
